O ano de 2024 deve se tornar o mais quente registrado na história recente conforme boletim Copernicus divulgado nesta quinta-feira, 7. Segundo o monitoramento climático da agência espacial europeia, este ano pode ser o primeiro a apresentar média global superior a 1,5°C.

“A anomalia média da temperatura para o resto de 2024 teria de cair para quase zero para que 2024 não fosse o ano mais quente”, afirmou o boletim.

Cientistas têm alertado que o aumento da temperatura média global acima desta marca pode trazer consequências irreversíveis ao planeta causadas pelas mudanças climáticas.

O boletim aponta que a temperatura média global nos últimos 12 meses (novembro de 2023 a outubro de 2024) foi 0,74 acima da média de 1991-2020, com uma estimativa de 1,62 °C acima da média pré-industrial.

“Após 10 meses de 2024, agora é praticamente certo que 2024 será o ano mais quente já registrado e o primeiro com mais de 1,5 ºC acima dos níveis [de temperatura] pré-industriais, de acordo com o conjunto de dados ERA5. Isso marca novo marco nos registros de temperatura global e deve servir como catalisador para aumentar a ambição para a próxima Conferência sobre Mudanças Climáticas, a COP29”, alerta Samantha Burgess, diretora adjunta do Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).

De acordo com o boletim, outubro foi o segundo mais quente do mundo, depois de 2023. Como destaca a Copernicus, considerando que 2023 registrou aumento de 1,48°C em relação aos níveis pré-industriais, conforme a ERA5, é praticamente certo que a temperatura anual de 2024 será mais de 1,5°C acima do nível pré-industrial, e provavelmente superará 1,55°C.
